Battle of the Bridges

The 2008-2009 season will see the Spartan sports teams set out to defend their Battle of the Bridges title against the Northbridge Rams and seek to add a fifth consecutive title to the long-time rivalry. Once again, athletes in both towns are fired up to battle for bragging rights that will extend across the scoreboard for every sport and not merely earn bragging rights for whichever school wins the annual Thanksgiving Day football game. The Spartans have dominated the Battle as they have captured the trophy for the first three years of its existence.

The Mumford and Uxbridge Knights of Columbus councils have established this competition that will showcase the talents of athletes who play all high school sports in both schools, instead of just focusing on football. The Battle of the Bridges trophy is awarded to the school that wins the most games against the other during the entire school year. Each varsity team is given one point for each game they win against their rival school. The football, cross-country and track teams will be awarded two points because they meet just once during their season.

At the end of the school year, the winning school’s name will be engraved on the trophy, which will be given to the school to display.
